Sleep Easy

Snoring can be debilitating which is why we offer laser snoring treatment for chronic snorers

Snoring can be irritating to your partner as well as detrimental to your overall health. This is what drives many people to seek treatment for their sleep apnoea, although unfortunately most treatments are uncomfortable or require surgery which is not ideal. Luckily Fotana has developed a laser treatment for snoring which can tighten the throat tissue that leads to congestion in the throat while asleep.

Do you feel fatigued and stressed?

Snoring can lead to sleep disruption every night which can then lead to chronic fatigue which means constant tiredness. This can also lead to stress, overconsumption of caffeine and can affect the status of your general health. This is a snowball effect which is sparked by the occurrence of snoring.

If your partner or someone else notices that you snore it is important that you receive effective treatment for this as soon as possible because it may lead to further health complications as well as obstructive sleep apnoea which is a serious sleep illness where breathing will stop hundreds of times a night due to throat tissue blocking the airway. It’s important to seek diagnosis of your snoring so you can determine if you snore or have OSA as well.

Risk factors for snoring

Men are statistically at higher risk of snoring in their sleep. Men are also at higher risk of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes which are suggested as linked to snoring. Obesity is linked to snoring, if you are overweight then you will have excess throat tissue around your neck which can compress your airway and make it difficult for you to breathe. Women can also develop snoring although their risk factor is not as high.

Another factor that can put you at risk is the width of your neck. For men it is recommended that you have no larger than 17 inches in circumference while women should aim for a neck that is below 15 inches.

An alternative to old techniques

This treatment can provide effective relief from snoring as well as provide an alternative solution to the more traditional and uncomfortable snoring treatments such as CPAP therapy, dental appliances and surgery.

Our solution is non-surgical and effective

Here at Hunter Laser Centre in Kotara we have a laser snoring treatment that does not require any incisions and involves very little downtime. This procedure is known as NightLase and it’s created by Fotana so people can receive treatment for snoring simply in a fast procedure. The procedure itself will involve a specially shaped laser applicator being inserted into your throat so the laser can treat the interior of the throat tissue. This will then cause the tissue to tighten by the stimulation of collagen, which means that less throat tissue will block your airway, reducing your snoring.

So if you think you may have serious snoring or OSA please book a consultation with Dr Masi or Dr Kinsella at Hunter Laser Centre in Kotara, Newcastle.
